Major general gets nod for a top Army position
Maj. Gen. James A. Kelley has been nominated by the Army chief of staff to become the deputy assistant secretary of defense for readiness, training and mobilization in the office of reserve affairs, officials said Thursday.
Kelley is currently deputy commander for operations of the 3rd U.S. Army. In that role, he also serves as deputy commander of the Coalition Forces Land Component Command in Kuwait.
The 3rd Army and CFLCC have responsibility for a huge swath of territory that includes northeastern Africa, the Middle East, South Asia and Central Asia.
