YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan — The U.S. Postal Service’s new flat-rate priority mail shipping box for customers sending mail to servicemembers overseas will be available stateside starting Monday.

The box is 12 inches by 12 inches and is 5½ inches thick. It is 50 percent larger than the previous flat-rate box, said Staff Sgt. Ruth Salender, with Yokota’s post office.

It will cost $10.95 to ship the box to APO and FPO addresses instead of the usual rate of $12.95, she said.

“The biggest benefit is for people in the States who are mailing package to APO addresses,” Salender said.

Boxes also can be ordered from the USPS Web site at www.usps.com.
