Col. Stephen R. Lanza Jr., chief of the Joint Staff’s Joint Capabilities Division, will take over as V Corps deputy commander, the Pentagon has announced.

A V Corps spokeswoman did not know Monday when Lanza would take over the position.

In March, the Defense Department announced Lanza would take on a new assignment as deputy chief of legislative liaisons for the Office of the Secretary of the Army.

But he has been reassigned instead to V Corps, based in Heidelberg, Germany. There was no explanation from the department about the switch, and V Corps could not offer a reason either.

Lanza will take over from Brig. Gen. Donald M. Campbell Jr., who has served as V Corps deputy commander since April and as V Corps chief of staff from June 2005 until May.

Campbell is taking over as deputy commander and chief of staff for I Corps at Fort Lewis, Wash.
