An Army Reserve soldier assigned to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center was found dead Tuesday by her roommates in building 3166 on Landstuhl post, according to a news release.

Capt. Marta Maltby, 55, was an intensive care unit nurse assigned to the 328th Combat Support Hospital (Army Reserve) out of Salt Lake City, the release stated. Maltby worked at Landstuhl for approximately a year and was scheduled to return to the United States at the end of the month.

Conditions surrounding her death are under investigation by the Army’s Criminal Investigation Command and the Armed Forces Regional Medical Examiner. There is no evidence that Maltby died of the blood infection that killed a soldier and an Air Force civilian in Germany this week.

A memorial service for Maltby is scheduled at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Landstuhl Chapel.

Maltby is survived by her husband Larry B. Mallard, a son Michael S. Minchey, a daughter Malinda Odell and her mother, Lorene North, all of Salt Lake City.
