Lakenheath-based fighter pilot dies
RAF MILDENHALL, England — An Air Force officer collapsed during a Bible study class Wednesday evening, and later died at a Cambridge hospital, according to an Air Force press release Friday.
Capt. Samuel Robertson, 26, was an F-15 pilot with the 48th Fighter Wing’s 493rd Fighter Squadron, based at RAF Lakenheath. Robertson collapsed during the gathering in Cambridge and was pronounced dead at approximately 10:45 p.m. Wednesday at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, base officials said.
The cause of Robertson’s death is under investigation, the release said.
Robertson, originally of Fulton, Mo., was married and stationed at Lakenheath for the past 13 months, base officials said Friday.
In the statement, wing commander Col. John Quintas expressed his condolences to Robertson’s family, friends and coworkers.
“He was a loving husband, a great friend and an outstanding Wingman,” Quintas said. “His loss will be felt across our Air Force family. The Liberty Wing will provide untiring support and assistance to his family during this difficult time.”
