A 22-year-old Kunsan Air Base senior airman was pronounced dead at a South Korean hospital late Wednesday night, according to an Air Force news release on Thursday.

His name was being withheld until his family could be contacted, according to the release.

The 8th Medical Support Squadron member was pronounced dead at 11:45 p.m. at Ajou University Hospital in Suwon, just south of Seoul.

U.S. and South Korean medical officials determined the cause of death was an acute illness, according to the release.

Kunsan officials did not return queries for more specific information on the death Thursday evening.
