Kitchen fire empties hotel at AFRC rec center in Korea
SEOUL — A small kitchen fire forced the evacuation of the Dragon Hill Lodge, a 394-room Armed Forces Recreation Center, at about 9:25 a.m. Tuesday, officials confirmed.
No injuries were reported and officials are investigating the incident, said Dennis Bohannon, Korea Region Office spokesman.
“It appears a charbroiler in the Greenstreet Restaurant flamed,” Bohannon said.
He said restaurant employees unsuccessfully attempted to extinguish the blaze before Yongsan’s firefighters responded. The fire department is about a quarter-mile from the Dragon Hill.
About 60 hotel guests and an unknown number of breakfast diners were evacuated, Bohannon said.
The guests were taken across the street to the Seoul American High School gymnasium until they were allowed back into the hotel at about 2:15 p.m.
Bohannon said all services are fully operative, including the Greenstreet Restaurant.
