CAMP KINSER, Okinawa — Summer fun on U.S. military bases on Okinawa gets a kickstart with the 11th annual Kinser Fest, set for the weekend of June 18-19 on Camp Kinser in Urasoe.

The event, open to Okinawans, features free entertainment, game booths, amusement rides, a KiddieLand for children and plenty of food. Several disc jockeys will be on hand to spin music from various genres, and live performances by Ryukyuan dancers and taiko drummers will provide traditional entertainment to the throng of festivalgoers expected to attend the event. R&B group Yamama’Nym from Washington, D.C., and the Grammy-nominated Latin Soul group Lugo will also perform.

The American Forces Network’s WAVE89 will broadcast live from the site all day June 18 and give away more than $2,500 worth of prizes. A drawing will also be held for free roundtrip tickets for two from Okinawa to Chicago, courtesy of United Airlines and Omega World travel.

The gates will be open between 3 p.m. and midnight June 18 and between 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. June 19. Kinser Fest will take place in the area adjacent to Buildings 325 and 326.
