YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan — Got jet lag when you’re staying at the Kanto Lodge and feel like hitting the treadmill at 3 a.m.?

Now you can. The lodge recently opened a 24-hour fitness center at its main facility available to all lodging guests.

The new fitness center follows the addition over the summer of wireless Internet in the lobby.

“They wanted to offer more conveniences for the guests,” said Lisa Knight Stevens, marketing director for the 374th Services Division. “Kanto Lodge is really reaching out to expand. They want to be the Hilton of the Kanto Plain and that’s basically what they’re doing.”

The fitness center, on the first floor near the main lobby, includes a variety of cardio equipment in a spacious setting. Fitness experts from the base gym helped set it up.

“The response we’ve gotten has been extremely positive,” Stevens said. “People who stayed there a year ago come back and are blown away by the changes that have been made.”

“We want to exceed people’s expectations,” she said. “Yokota Services has really bought into that mind-set and truly believes in that goal.”

Stevens said the wireless Internet service has proven popular and there are plans to expand it to all Kanto Lodge rooms in the future.

“Aircrews love it,” she said. “Usage is way up on that.”
