VICENZA, Italy — The handover of the Southern European Task Force (Airborne) has been set for July 10.
Maj. Gen. Jason Kamiya will turn over command to Brig. Gen. Frank Helmick in a ceremony on that day before heading to Norfolk, Va., where he will become the new commander of U.S. Joint Forces Command’s Joint Warfighting Center and director of joint training.
Helmick has been serving as senior military adviser to the deputy secretary of defense.
Three other major changes of command are set in June at Caserma Ederle.
Lt. Col. Mark Stammer turns over command of the 2nd Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment to Lt. Col. Bill Ostlund on June 20. Stammer will join the SETAF staff. Ostlund has been serving at Offutt Air Force Base, Neb.
Col. Chip Preysler takes over the 173rd Airborne Brigade on June 23 from Col. Kevin Owens, who is heading to Fort Bragg, N.C. Preysler is currently the operations officer for SETAF.
Lt. Col. Donald Ross takes over AFN-South from Lt. Col. Steve Malcom on June 30. Malcom is heading to Mannheim, Germany, to take over command of AFN-Europe. Ross has served recently as a public affairs officer and has gained industry experience at Fox News in New York.
