KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany — The Kaiserslautern Military Community is pooling its resources to present an Info-Fest on Thursday at the Vogelweh Housing Area.
The event, which will feature more than 50 organizations from Kaiserslautern, Landstuhl and Ramstein, is designed for newcomers and long-time residents who want to make the most of their time in the Kaiserslautern Military Community.
“If you’re only here for two years and it takes you six months to find something you like, it really wastes a lot of special time,” said Beth Anne Hall, president of the Kaiserslautern-Landstuhl Spouses Association.
“If you don’t have worthwhile things to do for your family or yourself, it can be a long and lonely two years. This is an opportunity to get involved in the community. It should help improve a person’s state of mind and how they feel about living here.”
The event runs from noon to 8 p.m. at Armstrong’s Club at the Vogelweh Housing Area. Among the organizations and agencies expected to attend are: Outdoor Recreation, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, the American Red Cross, Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers, SATO Travel and the churches.
There will be opportunities to register for youth services, child development centers and youth sports programs.
To register, parents must bring shot records, Social Security numbers, a leave-and-earnings statement and the names and phone numbers of three emergency contacts.
Registration will also be available for recreational programs, private organizations and clubs, and Morale, Welfare and Recreation activities.
Hall said even though the military community includes Air Force and Army personnel, the event is for all Department of Defense ID card holders.
“When it boils down to it, we have the resources of both [services] right here,” she said. “We’re opening it up to everyone. It makes more sense to have one event than to break it up into two.”
