CAMP FOSTER, Okinawa — The third numbered storm of the northwest Pacific’s tropical cyclone season spawned Wednesday near Palau.

A Joint Typhoon Warning Center forecast tracks the storm to pass between Okinawa and Iwo Jima on Monday afternoon. Officials at Kadena Air Base’s 18th Wing Weather Flight said it was “too early to tell” what the storm might do.

“We’re going to keep an eye on it,” Tech. Sgt. Kelly Gould of the 18th Wing Weather Flight said Monday.

At 6 p.m. Wednesday, Tropical Depression 03W was 115 miles west of Koror, Palau, moving west-northwest at 8 mph with sustained winds of 34 mph and gusts up to 46 at its center.
