KADENA AIR BASE, Okinawa — Five Kadena Services activities recently were named best in the Air Force in a service-wide Best Services Programs competition.

The Risner Fitness Complex, Enlisted Club Complex, Youth Programs, Human Resource Office and Marketing all took top honors, according to an 18th Services Squadron news release. Kadena Services also had one individual winner: Risner Fitness Center’s Tech Sgt. Harvey Gilchrist was named “Best Services NCO Air Force-wide.”

The squadron credits several initiatives in helping the Kadena service activities place first. The Home Meal Replacement program offers home-cooked meals, while TCBY and the first Chili’s in the Department of Defense brought tastes of home to the base. Other programs credited include a free taxi service, island-wide job fairs, animated e-mails highlighting weekly base events and Kadena Services TV. Seven days of discounts and savings, known as "Domo Days," also contributed to the first place finishes, according to the release.

Trophies for each activity are to be presented to Roley and selected Services officials next month during the Air Force Services Worldwide Conference in Denver.
