The 10th Annual Special Olympics is set for 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m Saturday at the Risner Fitness Complex on Kadena Air Base.

About 930 athletes will compete in track and field, basketball, tennis and other events. The athletes come from 77 schools on the island.

Nearly 500 artists will also be showcasing their work in an exhibition at the Risner Gym throughout the day.

Five thousand people are expected to attend the event, including approximately 2,000 volunteers, 350 interpreters and many senior officials from the Japanese and Okinawa prefectural governments, local communities and the U.S. military.

Traffic delays and limited parking on base are expected.
