Kadena Air Base has joined PBS Kids to bring a one-of-a-kind literacy event to the base for children and families — “PBS Kids Share a Story.”

The program is designed to inspire adults to help children develop language and literacy skills through storytelling, singing, reading, rhyming, acting and talking.

Two shows are scheduled for Wednesday at O’Connor Gym: a show for pre-schoolers from 10 to 11:30 a.m., and a show from 3 to 4:30 p.m. for older children.

Several characters from PBS Kids’ series will make appearances. Clifford the Big Red Dog and Arthur will bring their books to life.

Storytellers will read from books based on both characters, and PBS Kids stories will be told on television.

There also will be “Share a Story” family activity booklets with which parents and children can create stories together.

Information on how to share stories with children, and other resources, will be available.

Call Patti Mehrens at 634-7341 for more information.
