KADENA AIR BASE, Okinawa — The center of the U.S. military’s July Fourth celebrations on Okinawa will be the “Great American Bash” on Tuesday at Marek Park.

The daylong event will offer games, entertainment, food and beverages and will be capped by a 20-minute fireworks show scheduled to start at 8:40 p.m. Also planned: prize giveaways including a Harley-Davidson Sportster 1200 Roadster and round-trip airline tickets for a Hawaiian getaway or a trip to anywhere in the continental United States.

The event is to begin at 3 p.m. Parking is available at nearby Olympic Mall, the baseball diamonds and the Kadena Education Center. Folks at 18th Services say to bring your lawn chairs and blankets but please leave pets and coolers at home.

Entertainment planned for the day includes kiddie rides such as a giant slide, monkey house, bungee trampoline, horse rides and a train. A dunk booth, paintball and sumo wrestling will be offered for older children and the young at heart. Free games, such as egg relay races, a hula hoop contest, a sack race and tug of war, will be staged throughout the day.

Food booths are to offer cotton candy, funnel cakes, lumpia and snow cones. Also available will be traditional American hot dogs and hamburgers, with bottled water, soda and beer to wash it all down.

In case of rain, the party will be rescheduled for Wednesday.
