The U.S. military’s largest community outside of the United States is getting a new commander just seven months after the current commander took over.

Col. Richard C. Johnston has been selected for promotion to brigadier general and will take over as commander of the Kaiserslautern Military Community, the Air Force chief of staff announced Friday. Johnston will also command the 86th Airlift Wing, the host unit at Ramstein Air Base in Germany. He has been serving as executive officer to the commander of the U.S. Transportation Command at Scott Air Force Base, Ill.
