MISAWA AIR BASE, Japan — A Japanese Ground Self-Defense Force medical team from Hokkaido took overall honors Thursday at the 8th annual Pacific Command EMT Rodeo.
The six-person Northern Medical Unit team from Camp Makiminato near Sapporo, Japan, showed off its medic mettle in competitions pitting American and Japanese squads against the clock in treating simulated-accident victims.
It dethroned four-time defending champion Camp Lester Naval Hospital of Okinawa, which placed second. The Navy team prevailed in the water-rescue category.
The Sapporo team also captured first in the peacetime casualty and litter obstacle course categories.
