MARINE CORPS AIR STATION IWAKUNI, Japan — Marine Staff Sgt. Michael D. Nutting, an explosive ordnance technician with Marine Wing Support Squadron 171, received a Bronze Star Medal last week at Iwakuni for actions during his second tour in Iraq from February to August, according to base officials.

In Iraq, Nutting’s job was clearing improvised explosives and catching insurgents who make and place them.

In roughly three months, he caught 45 insurgent bomb-makers while assigned to Combat Joint Task Force Troy, according to base officials. He also trained other units to find and capture the insurgent bomb-makers.
