Load up the blankets and lawn chairs — it’s concert time at Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni.

The Summer Music Festival is Saturday and will feature a variety of live music from around the region, according to Marine Corps Community Services.

"The event is absolutely free and always delivers with a wide variety of great musical performances from professionals and local bands alike," MCCS marketing director Steve Howard said in an e-mail to Stars and Stripes.

This year, the concert will feature country music artist Floyd VanLaningham, a regular performer at military installations in the Far East.

VanLaningham has opened for such country stars as Darryl Worley, Travis Tritt, Marty Raybon and Merle Haggard, according to Armed Forces Entertainment.

Brown Inc., from Manila, Philippines, will perform music from such artists as Tina Turner, Beyonce Knowles and Stevie Wonder.

Afro Fire will play rhythm and blues music, and Blues Workshop, of Hiroshima, Japan, will play blues and rock classics, Howard said.

A large screen will be mounted on the stage with a live multi-camera video feed of the concert provided by MCCS.

The festival also includes children’s amusements and a free buffet by Club Iwakuni, according to Howard.

The festival runs from 5 to 10 p.m. on the lawn at Torii Pines Golf Course. For more information, call MCCS at DSN 253-3727 or visit
