IMA-Europe selects soldier, NCO of the year
May 27, 2006
Staff Sgt. Antonio Mariscal-Guzman and Spc. Jose A. Pazmino have been named the Installation Management Agency-Europe noncommissioned officer and soldier of the year, respectively.
Mariscal-Guzman, a nuclear, biological and chemical training NCO at U.S. Army Garrison Schinnen, Netherlands, beat out three other competitors to win the NCO category.
Pazmino, a personnel clerk at USAG Darmstadt, Germany, was selected over four other soldiers.
Both Mariscal-Guzman, a native of El Paso, Texas, and Pazmino, of Mountain View, Calif., were selected based on superior performances on linear navigations and weapons qualifications tests, written and oral exams, an essay and a physical fitness test, which included a 20-kilometer road march with a 35-pound rucksack.
Mariscal-Guzman overcame physical exhaustion to win.
He needed an IV treatment to rehydrate after the march, according to an IMA news release.
In addition to receiving various prizes and awards, the two will go on to represent Europe at the IMA Headquarters NCO and Soldier of the Year competitions in Virginia in June.
