HANAU, Germany — For the second time in four years, the best small dining facility in the Army is the Touch of Home Café in Hanau, Germany.

The facility, managed by the 16th Corps Support Group, finished first in the small garrison category for the Philip A. Connelly awards. A team of Army food service specialists and members of the International Food Service Executives Association selected the winners late last month.

Located on Hutier Casern, the café, which offers breakfast, lunch and dinner, serves about 400 meals a day, said Staff Sgt. Makeesha Cain, the dining facility manager. She attributed the facility’s success to a highly motivated 15-member staff, teamwork, communication and pride.

The Connelly Awards are intended to improve the professionalism of food service personnel and to recognize excellence in the preparation and serving of food in Army dining facilities.

Connelly judges also selected the 1st Brigade Headquarters and Headquarters Company in Friedberg, Germany, as the first runner-up in the field kitchen category. Representatives of both honorees have been invited to the April awards ceremony in Dallas.
