Maj. Gen. Charles Gurganus assumed command of U.S. Marine Corps Forces-Korea during a ceremony Friday at U.S. Army Garrison-Yongsan’s Knight Field.

He succeeded Maj. Gen. Frank Panter Jr., who has held the position since June 2007 and will become deputy commandant for installations and logistics in Washington, D.C.

Gurganus graduated from the University of North Carolina and was commissioned in 1976. He has served in Iraq and held numerous leadership positions within the Marine Corps.
