The civil engineer squadron commander on Andersen Air Force Base, Guam, was awarded a Bronze Star on Thursday for service during a six-month deployment to Iraq in 2004.

Lt. Col. Peter Ridilla, commander of the 36th Civil Engineer Squadron, earned the medal for his "meritorious service while serving as the 732nd Expeditionary Civil Engineer Squadron commanding officer" at Logistics Support Area Anaconda, according to an Air Force news release.

Brig. Gen. Doug Owens, 36th Wing commander, presented the award during a ceremony in the base theater.

Ridilla "displayed outstanding leadership skills while [he] endured 379 rocket, improvised explosive device, and mortar attacks," according to the narrative accompanying the medal.
