ANDERSEN AIR FORCE BASE, Guam — Civilian police have arrested seven adults and a teen in connection with the shooting death of a 14-year-old boy.
Base officials said they were unable to release details about the shooting, but they confirmed the suspects were discovered at 2:40 a.m. Tuesday in a dense jungle area popular for hunting feral pigs and deer.
Hunting at night is prohibited on base, and hunting in the area during the day was previously suspended because of a training exercise, Andersen spokesman Tech Sgt. Dale Yates said. No member of the group had permission to be on base.
“Two minors in the group were taken to Guam Memorial Hospital with apparent gunshot wounds suspected to have been inflicted by another member of the group,” Yates said. “One of the minors died en route.”
The other boy, a 15-year-old, was hospitalized. Identified in the Pacific Daily News as Vincent Paul Palomo, he was in stable condition Tuesday, hospital nursing supervisor Mona Perez said.
The name of the teenager killed in the incident was being withheld by the Air Force at the request of Guam police, Yates said. But the Pacific Daily News identified the dead teenager as Shaundale P. Quenga.
Air Force Office of Special Investigations agents are investigating the shooting with the help of Guam police, Yates said. They’ve also asked the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms to assist.
The Air Force identified those arrested by Guam police as:
