SEOUL — South Korean police said they have apprehended three U.S. soldiers suspected of stealing a Korean man’s truck early Monday morning in Dongducheon, near Camp Casey.

Yangju police detective Yoon Ui-kwon said a 55-year-old man named Hong witnessed his truck being stolen from an off-base parking lot. Hong chased after the truck and succeeded in climbing into its bed as it was moving.

Yoon said the soldiers drove for a little more than a mile before stopping at a dead end. He said they abandoned the truck and fled but were picked up by police shortly after at a nearby train station. Yoon identified one soldier as Pfc. Joel A. Williams, 23.

After South Korean police conducted an initial investigation, the soldiers were turned over to U.S. custody. Yoon said the three will be summoned to the police station on Wednesday for further questioning.

A 2nd ID spokesman said Monday that the incident is under investigation.
