SEOUL — A 2nd Infantry Division soldier was found dead at a training area on Camp Casey around 6:45 a.m. Friday, according to an Army news release.

Officials said it appeared he had fallen off an estimated 100- to 150-foot-steep rock formation. His body was discovered at the base of the formation after he failed to show up from night land-navigation training.

His name is being withheld until his family is notified, the Army said.

The incident is under investigation by military police and division safety personnel. The exact cause of death has been labeled undetermined, pending autopsy results.

Friday’s death was the third fatality for the 2nd ID in two days.

On Wednesday, two soldiers from the division’s 44th Engineer Battalion were killed when a 56-ton M48 Armored Vehicle Launched Bridge collided with a 2.5-ton tactical vehicle that was carrying soldiers during scheduled exercises at the Korea Training Center. A team from the U.S. Army Safety Center, Fort Rucker, Ala., is investigating that accident.
