Stars and Stripes recently sat down with the Mississippi State graduate for a brief chat about his recent spate of good fortune.

Word around the base is you’ve been doing pretty well for yourself in some of these drawings. What’s up?

Last year it was the Harley and this year the trip to the ACC Championship game in Florida. It’s been pretty cool.

What kind of Harley?

It was an 883 Sportster.

And are you still riding it?

Not riding it now. We got rid of it. It was just too small.

How did you win it?

I put my name in one of those boxes you see. I am a big believer in those boxes lately.

And what about this trip to Florida?

Yeah, it was pretty awesome. We got to go to Jacksonville to see the [Atlantic Coast Conference] football championship game.

That was [Boston College] and …?

It was BC and Virginia Tech. And Virginia Tech won.

And you were totally set up right?

It was flights, food, hotel, parties, the whole nine. It was very good, but I didn’t qualify for the big money. I took third out of 33, which really means I was the first loser as they gave prizes to the top two. But I did find $100 in the ATM.

Stop right there. You won a free trip to Florida, saw a championship football game and then found $100. That’s what happened to you?

That’s right. When I stopped at the ATM, there was 100 bucks sitting there.

What more can anyone really ask for?

I don’t think I mentioned that my son and I flew first class both ways. He was more excited about that than the actual game. And it was pretty cool.
