KABUL, Afghanistan – A NATO servicemember from the Republic of Georgia has been killed in an insurgent attack near Bagram Air Field, military officials said Wednesday.

No further information about the incident was immediately available.

The Georgian, who died in an enemy attack on Tuesday, was the ninth fatality in NATO’s Resolute Support training and advise mission, which began on Jan. 1, 2015, said a military official who spoke on condition of anonymity. The casualties also include six U.S. servicemembers, one U.S. government civilian and one Turkish servicemember, the official said.

Bagram Air Field, located about 30 miles north of Kabul, has come under attack — usually by rocket-firing guerrillas — numerous times in the past.
