YOKOSUKA NAVAL BASE, Japan — A funeral was held Monday for a Japanese Ship Repair Facility worker who died last week after suffering a heart attack while working on the USS Fitzgerald.

Yuuji Hori, 48, collapsed on Jan. 6 as he was preparing to start repair work on board the USS Fitzgerald, in port at Yokosuka Naval Base. A co-worker saw him collapse and immediately summoned assistance. Hori was transferred by ambulance to Kyosai Hospital, where a physician pronounced him dead at 10:47 a.m.

“We offer our deep sympathies to the Hori family and share in their grief at the sudden loss of one of our shipmates,” Capt. Stephanie A. Douglas, commanding officer of the U.S. Naval Ship Repair Facility and Japan Regional Maintenance Center, Yokosuka, Japan, was quoted in a news release as saying.
