Although airplanes were on the glide path over the nearly 50,000 Simon and Garfunkel fans at Offenbach's soccer stadium, the cheers from the audience were all that could be heard.

It's hard to believe that these two artists haven't worked together for 10 years. It was a nostalgia trip for many, with memories working overtime. The duo sang most of the songs from the album that was recorded at the New York Open Air Festival.

People from all walks of life and ages enjoyed "Bridge Over Troubled Water," "Kodachrome," "59th Street Bridge Song," "Mrs. Robinson," and "The Boxer." During "The Sounds of Silence," lights were lit throughout the crowd. One person even had a candle.

As the duo swung with the Latin beat of "Late in the Evening," so did the crowd. What a sound: nearly 50,000 pairs of hands clapping and thousands of feet stomping.

When Simon and Garfunkel repeated "The Boxer" during the third encore, it was the last song of the evening.

The European tour is taking Simon and Garfunkel to West Berlin Tuesday, Copenhagen Thursday, Stockholm Saturday, Paris June 8-9, Zurich June 10, Rotterdam June 12 and Dublin June 15, before a final concert in London June 19.
