Celebrations marking the Fourth of July are planned at U.S. military bases throughout Europe. Here is a sampling of the activities:

BeneluxU.S. Army Garrison Brussels/Schinnen (Tri-Border): SHAPE’s celebration noon to 11 p.m. July 4, with carnival rides and entertainment; fireworks at 11. Schinnen fest starts at 2:45 p.m. July 5 at Brunssum Sports Fields with open play programs, entertainment, a World War II vehicle display, hot-air balloon rides and food; fireworks at 11 p.m. Brussels American School is the site of a festival to be held from 3-11 p.m. July 5 with games, vehicle display and a live band; fireworks at 11.

GermanyUSAG Ansbach: 3-10 p.m. July 4 at Hangar 2, Katterbach. Contests and competitions to include beautiful baby, rock band and "American Idol," soccer shoot-out, water balloons toss, pie-eating and hot dog-eating contests, limbo, frozen T-shirt contest, plus bouncing castles, concessions and more. USAG Baden-Württemberg/USAG Heidelberg: 4-11 p.m. July 4 at Patrick Henry Village Park, Heidelberg. Children’s activities, martial-arts demonstrations, live music and fireworks.

USAG Baumholder: The garrison will join the celebration at Ramstein Air Base. Shuttle buses will depart from Wagon Wheel Theater at 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 p.m.; returning from Ramstein Base Exchange at 4, 6, 8 and 10 p.m. and midnight. Look for buses with the MWR signs in the front window.

USAG Bamberg: 9 a.m.-10 p.m. July 4 at Pendleton Field. Golf tournament, fun run, hot-rod car show, food and drinks, talent show and music; fireworks at 10.

USAG Garmisch: 9 a.m.-6 p.m. July 4 at Artillery Kaserne. County fair with 5K fun run, softball tournament, old-fashioned American-style county fair with barbecue-style food, chili cook-off, games and more.

USAG Grafenwöhr/Vilseck: 10:30 p.m. July 4 at Tower Theater Parking Lot, Grafenwöhr; 10:30 p.m. July 4 at Little Mike Softball Field, Vilseck. Also concerts at Grafenwöhr Field House on July 5 and 6.

USAG Hohenfels: starting at 6 p.m. July 4 near the CAC/bowling center. Bowling, volleyball, bouncing castle, music (disc jockey and band); fireworks around 10:30 p.m.

USAG Kaiserslautern: The garrison will join the July 4 celebration at Ramstein Air Base. Free Skate for America, 6-9 p.m. July 3 at Skate Express on Vogelweh.

USAG Mannheim: German-American Summer Fest, 4 p.m. to 1 a.m. daily through July 6 at Benjamin Franklin Village Bowling and Top Hat parking lot. Carnival rides, games, food and more. Fireworks begin at 10:30 p.m. July 4. For details, call DSN 385-3169 or 385-2653, or 0621-730-3169 or 0621-730-2653.

Ramstein Air Base: 2 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. July 4-July 5 on Ramp 6. Dog show, baking contest, KMC Idol competition, live entertainment and fireworks at 10:30. Celebration is for entire Kaiserslautern military community, and shuttle buses will run to and from Ramstein Base Exchange from 1:30 p.m. July 4 to 1:30 a.m. July 5.

USAG Schweinfurt: Noon-10 p.m. July 4 at Kessler Field. Includes four live bands, fire-breathers, jugglers, clowns, balloon artists, face-painting, bungee trampoline, mechanical bull, surf simulator, dolphin slide, climbing mountain, ski-jump slide, parade of flags, falcon show and fireworks. Open to U.S. ID cardholders and guests.

Spangdahlem Air Base: Starting at 6 p.m. July 4 at the Club Eifel. Volleyball, horseshoes, paintball, children’s games, food and fireworks.

USAG Stuttgart: 4-11 p.m. July 3; 10 a.m. until time for the fireworks July 4 at Husky Field, Patch Barracks. Live music, 5K fun run, craft fair, food and drinks, field games and other events, including fireworks at 10:30 p.m.

USAG Wiesbaden: 4-10 p.m. July 4 at Wiesbaden Army Airfield. Traditional Independence Day bash featuring music, sumo wrestling, face-painting, jumping castles and fireworks. More information by calling Outdoor Recreation at DSN 335-5760 or 0611-4080-760.

ItalyAviano: 8 a.m. to midnight July 4 at Freedom Park (behind Dragon Fitness Center). Begins with 5K run and includes softball and golf tournaments, a car show, family games, food and musical entertainment; fireworks at 10:40 p.m.

USAG Livorno: Starting at 10 p.m. July 4 at American Beach. Fun, food and music; fireworks at 10 p.m.

Naples: Starting at 3 p.m. July 3-6 at Carney Park. Motorcycle show, dog show, magician, medieval combat demonstration, dance demonstrations, USO Idol competition and live bands through July 5 with fireworks at 9:45 p.m. July 4. Carnival rides open to authorized/eligible patrons only 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. July 6.

USAG Vicenza: 6 p.m.-midnight July 4-5 at Caserma Ederle. Food and drinks, carnival rides for children, entertainment will include jugglers, magicians, break dancers, jazz, country and marching bands, a fitness show and an Elvis impersonator. Fireworks 10 p.m. July 4.

SpainRota: Starting at 4 p.m. July 3. For the first time, attendees will not have to buy entry tickets for activities, many of which are free, including games, bouncing castles, arts and crafts, food and music. Music will be performed by the Spanish marine band and the Santana tribute band Soul Sacrifice. Evening closes with fireworks over Admirals Beach, followed by a drive-in movie. In addition, the Morale, Welfare and Recreation Fitness Center will host a Family Spirit 5K run/walk, a sand volleyball tournament and a tug-of-war competition.

TurkeyIncirlik Air Base: Live music, door prizes, youth activities, food and drink; fireworks at 9:30 p.m.

United KingdomRAF Feltwell: Noon to midnight July 4. The gates will be opened to the public. Celebration will include live music, games, carnival rides, car show, variety of food and fireworks at 10 p.m. A family fun run at 9 a.m. is for ID cardholders only.
