A new unit will take command over Ibn Sina Hospital, one of the premier combat hospitals in Iraq, in mid-November, officials say.
The 86th Combat Support Hospital, based in Fort Campbell, Ky., will take over for the 28th Combat Support Hospital, which is nearing the end of a 14½-month deployment at Ibn Sina, in the heart of Baghdad’s Green Zone.
The outgoing “China Dragons,” based in Fort Bragg, N.C., hosted a ceremony Sunday at the hospital honoring four Iraqi physicians who founded the facility.
For the 86th, this is a return trip to Ibn Sina, which has one of the busiest trauma centers in the country.
Officials say coalition forces expect to transfer the hospital back to the Iraqi government at some point.
