Five members of an Italy-based munitions squadron have been found guilty of cocaine use in a series of courts-martial.

The airmen were all assigned to the 712th Munitions Squadron at Camp Darby. Their courts-martial were held in December, according to base officials.

Airman 1st Class Sy Holsinger was found guilty of diverse cocaine use and fraudulent enlistment. He was sentenced to five months’ confinement, $795 a month lost pay during confinement, reduction to E-1 and a bad-conduct discharge.

Airman 1st Class Dean Foderaro was found guilty of diverse cocaine use. He was found not guilty of wrongful Percocet use. He was sentenced to 100 days’ confinement, reduction in rank to E-1 and a bad-conduct discharge.

Airman 1st Class Alan Freed was found guilty of diverse cocaine use, diverse Ecstasy use, fraudulent enlistment and use of Ecstasy and marijuana while on leave in the States. He was found not guilty of wrongful Loritab use and conduct prejudicial to good order and discipline. He was sentenced to 11 months’ confinement, reduction in rank to E-1 and a bad-conduct discharge.

Senior Airman Cory Gerrick was found guilty of diverse cocaine use and cocaine distribution. He was sentenced to 18 months’ confinement, reduction in rank to E-1 and a bad-conduct discharge.

Senior Airman Johnny McCarthan was found guilty of cocaine use. He was found not guilty of marijuana use and conduct prejudicial to good order and discipline. He was given a reprimand, a reduction in rank to E-1, five months’ confinement, forfeiture of $250 a month in pay while confined and two months of hard labor at Camp Darby.

A sixth airman charged in the case was acquitted of the charges.

Lt. Col. Stephen Williams, the squadron commander, said that two of the airmen had already finished their sentences and left the service. The other three were currently spending time at the military confinement facility in Mannheim, Germany.

The airmen at Darby were a part of the Aviano-based 31st Fighter Wing at the time of the sting, but a USAFE reorganization has transferred legal authority to the 38th Combat Support Wing. Four of the courts-martial were held at Ramstein Air Base in Germany.
