YONGSAN GARRISON, South Korea — Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. and Area II’s Morale, Welfare and Recreation department paired up to co-host the Community Festival 2005 on Sunday at Yongsan Garrison.
Organizers said the festival, themed “Unity in the Community,” was a nice way to celebrate Memorial Day weekend.
It also showcased the “Korean Idol” final competition, sponsored by the sorority and the American Forces Network.
The best singers across the peninsula, selected in local competitions, took to the stage looking to impress the crowd and the judges.
After one last song each, finalists Airman 1st Class Cole Dunham, Army Staff Sgt. Eddie Garcia and Army Staff Sgt. Shaunna Douglas stood side-by-side, awaiting the results.
And even though her voice was strained from all the singing, Douglas took top honors and the free round-trip ticket to the States.
Dunham received a karaoke machine for his second-place finish and Garcia won an MP3 player.
Other entertainment included face painting, a martial arts demonstration and traditional Korean dances.
