The public is invited to the Bad Aibling Station Farewell Fest, which will be held Thursday through Sunday at the U.S. military base in southern Germany.

The festival is being held within a secure section of the base, and Department of Defense ID cards are not required for entrance.

The event replaced the annual Fourth of July festival, which had run annually since 1958. The Bad Aibling base will soon start drawing down for a September closing, so the festival was moved up to this weekend while all the base workers were still around, according to base spokesman Spc. Alexy C. Blot.

Thursday’s and Friday’s activities start at 5 p.m., while Saturday’s and Sunday’s start at noon. Each day will include music and German and American food and beverages, including a keg-tapping ceremony at 5:20 p.m. Thursday.

Sunday’s activities will be highlighted by a parade featuring more than 1,000 marchers that will proceed from the village of Bad Aibling to the festival grounds. The parade starts at 11 a.m. and will include military personnel from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, France, Poland, the Netherlands and the United States. There will be fireworks at 9:30 p.m. Sunday.
