She burst onto the British music scene in 2006 with a deft blend of poppy hooks blended into a dancehall-ska musical tone. Since then, not so much.

She’s Lily Allen, with the voice of the sweetest sparrow.

But her fame and notoriety have lately come from the tabloid pages of any British paper, where Allen can be found cavorting topless in St. Tropez or stumbling through her beloved London town in a drunken state.

So who is this chanteuse?

The 21-year-old was born and raised in Hammersmith, London, the daughter of British comedian Keith Allen, according tolilyallenmusic.com.

She bopped around various schools, getting expelled from various institutions. Along the way, she picked up and developed an appreciation for various kinds of music, from punk and reggae to dance music.

Allen left school at 15 because "her creative needs were not being met," according to the Web site.

In the end, Allen wrote what she knew, sparking her first hit "LDN" in 2006, an homage to the capital city of London where she grew up and still calls home when she’s not making moves on the celebrity circuit. A new album is expected in the next year.
