VICENZA, Italy — The soldier killed Tuesday in a motorcycle accident has been identified as Sgt. Nathan Teregeyo.

Teregeyo, 25, lost control of his motorcycle on a curve on Strada Provinciale 349, a winding road leading up to Asiago in the foothills of the Alps, and struck a brick wall next to an apartment complex, officials said. He died at the scene.

Teregeyo had reported for duty with the 173rd Infantry Brigade in December 2014, U.S. Garrison Italy officials said. He was attached to the 1st Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment (Airborne).

The serpentine route, also known as the Strada del Cost, with hairpin curves and panoramic views of the Astico Valley, has been the site of dozens of fatalities over the years, many of them motorcyclists, according to local media.

Teregeyo was riding a Suzuki GSX-R600, according to local media, along with a fellow soldier on a second motorcycle, when he lost control of the bike about 4 p.m.
