TOKYO — The U.S. Embassy reported that an American citizen was stabbed to death recently in Yoyogi Park, near the Harajuku shopping area and Meiji Shrine in Tokyo, according to the monthly embassy newsletter.

The embassy report didn’t provide details but urged Americans to use caution even in relatively safe Japan.

The notice said another American was stabbed but survived some time ago near the Yoyogi train station next to the park.

According to Japanese news reports, the murdered man was stabbed in the neck in a park bathroom April 12 and died soon after. On April 18, he was identified as a 34-year-old American with permanent residency in Japan.

The embassy notice said the two cases are unrelated. Police are investigating both, according to news reports.
