CAMP FOSTER, Okinawa — The Department of Defense Education Activity has named Bechtel Elementary School’s Mike McClain assistant principal of the year for elementary and middle schools.
According to a DODEA news release, the award honors administrators who have a commitment to excellence in designing academic and social programs for students and establishing firm community ties with parents and the military community. Bechtel Elementary is on Camp McTureous.
“Mr. McClain always has a smile to offer,” said Alisa Allen, a Kadena Middle School parent who praised McCain’s community service work, which included volunteering as a fund-raiser for the Kadena High School Graduation Project.
Gayle Vaughn-Wiles, superintendent of DODEA’s Okinawa District, said McClain was “an outstanding assistant principal due to his ability to foster a community of learners within an educational environment. Mr. McClain’s philosophy is to involve parents in that community of learning.”
