CAMP COURTNEY, Okinawa — Give blood here Saturday and you just might be driving home with a Jeep radio-cooler, a Chevy racing jacket or a Harley Davidson “Hog” piggy bank.

The prizes, donated by Exchange New Car Sales, will be given away every half-hour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Armed Services Blood Bank Center’s blood drive at the base medical clinic.

But that’s not all you could win.

Everyone giving blood during the next two months gets a pledge card that will make him or her eligible for a 29-inch television donated by the Army and Air Force Exchange Service, said Joelle Taylor, Okinawa’s blood bank quality assurance coordinator.

“The summer time generally sees a drop in blood donations, so we decided to have a little fun to get people to come on out and donate,” Taylor said.

“We normally collect 300 units of blood per month, but during the summer, when a lot of people are transferring or on deployment, we see a major drop in our supply,” she said.

“We’re lucky to get 200 units.”

For Saturday’s blood drive, the United Service Organizations is donating food, and Gatorade is supplying refreshments, Taylor said.

The blood bank is making arrangements to have a photo of the largest group giving blood Saturday to appear in Maxim magazine, she said.
