TOKYO – The Department of Defense Education Activity has appointed Dr. Steven R. Bloom to temporarily run its Pacific schools starting Nov. 20, DODEA announced this week.
Bloom, the superintendent for DODEA's Guam district, will be responsible for managing the 49 schools in Guam, Japan, Okinawa and South Korea, according to a news release.
DODEA Pacific’s current director, Diana Ohman, has accepted a position with the Department of Veterans Affairs as the Midwest regional director of national cemeteries and monuments and will begin her new job Nov. 20.
A formal job announcement for the permanent Area Director for DODEA Pacific was posted to the USAJobs website Nov. 2 with a closing date of Dec. 7, the release said.
“Dr. Bloom has a proven record of success,” Acting DODEA Director Marilee Fitzgerald said in the release. “Having previously served as the Deputy Director of DODEA Pacific schools, Dr. Bloom’s selection minimizes the disruption associated with any senior leadership change.”
DODEA Guam District Assistant Superintendent Jeff Arrington will serve as the acting superintendent for the Guam District during Bloom’s 120-day assignment.
