Longtime Department of Defense Dependents Schools principal Richard Sagerman died Saturday following a long illness, DODDS officials said Sunday. Sagerman had been on extended leave from Robinson Barracks Elementary School in Stuttgart, Germany, while fighting the illness.
Sagerman joined DODDS in 1968, spending his first assignment in Okinawa. He also taught in Nuremberg and Bindlach, as well as being an administrator in Ansbach. He was a principal in Grafenwöhr from 1984 through 1999, then took over at Robinson Barracks before his illness.
Sagerman is survived by his wife, Margit, and three daughters, Daniela and Nicola Sagerman and Alison Baedke.
No date has been set for the funeral, which will be held in Betzenstein, Germany.
