NAPLES, Italy — The Defense Department is conducting its annual Overseas Housing Allowance Utility/Recurring Maintenance Allowance survey to help determine how much money servicemembers in Italy will receive for off-base housing and maintenance expenditures.

The survey will run from Feb. 15 to March 14, according to a Navy news release.

In a change to this year’s survey, the Defense Travel Management Office will e-mail the survey web link directly to eligible members, instead of making it available directly online.

The survey can be completed by any active-duty member who has lived in off-base, privately leased housing for at least six months and received an overseas housing allowance. Participants will have to compute a monthly average for utility and maintenance expenses for the last 12 months.

Expenses include electricity, heating, water for residence, trash collection, sewer charges, maintenance and minor repairs, insurance coverage, condo fees, police protection, guards and taxes for which the tenant is responsible.

Expenses such as cable or satellite TV, telephone bills and automotive expenses are not included in this survey.
