The Department of Defense on Friday identified a Friedberg, Germany-based soldier killed in Ramadi, Iraq, on Aug. 19.

Sgt. Marquees A. Quick, 28, of Hoover, Ala., died from injuries sustained when his unit came in contact with enemy forces using grenades, according to the release.

Quick, who was conducting security and observation operations at the time of his death, was assigned to 1st Armored Division, 1st Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team.

At least 12 other 1st AD soldiers from the Friedberg and Baumholder, Germany, communities have died in Iraq since July 1. Much of the enemy activity the division has seen has taken place in the volatile Al Anbar province west of Baghdad.

No information on a memorial service for Quick was available.
