DOD identifies soldier who died in Afghanistan
KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany — The Defense Department has identified a Germany-based soldier who died in Afghanistan as Staff. Sgt. Jesse L. Thomas Jr., a member of the 39th Transportation Battalion based in Kaiserslautern.
Thomas, of Pensacola, Fla., died Monday in Helmand province in undisclosed circumstances, according to a Defense Department news release.
A spokesman for the International Security Assistance Force Joint Command in Kabul said Thomas died from a non-combat injury, but could not offer more details.
“The incident is under investigation,” according to the Defense Department.
