The Pacific region saw two new flag officer assignments and an appointment nomination for a Marine Corps general this week, according to announcements by Secretary of Defense Robert Gates and Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Gary Roughead.

Rear Adm. Jeffrey S. Jones will be assigned as commander of Expeditionary Strike Group Seven and Amphibious Force of the U.S. Navy’s 7th Fleet based on Okinawa. Jones is director of the Iraq Training and Advisory Team Navy, U.S. Forces-Iraq.

Rear Adm. Ron J. MacLaren will be assigned as military director for the Joint Contingency Acquisition Support Officer of the Defense Logistics Agency in Fort Belvoir, Va. He’s now assistant deputy chief of staff for logistics, fleet supply and ordnance for N4, U.S. Pacific Fleet, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

Marine Corps Brig. Gen. James B. Laster was nominated for appointment to major general. Laster commands the 3rd Marine Division on Okinawa.
