A portion of Kaiserslautern was closed to traffic and evacuated Thursday afternoon as German authorities disarmed and removed a recently discovered World War II bomb.
A 1,100-pound bomb was found in the southern part of Kaiserslautern near the city’s university.
The area was evacuated between 1 p.m. and about 4 p.m. while the bomb was disarmed and removed.
In recent years, several WWII-era bombs from Allied bombings on Kaiserslautern have been discovered in the area, including some that were unearthed during construction on U.S. military installations.
