The deputy commander of the U.S. command that oversees the day-to-day operations in Iraq has received his second star, officials said Friday.

Marine Maj. Gen. Paul E. Lefebvre, deputy commander of Multi-National Corps — Iraq, was promoted Thursday during a ceremony at Al Faw Palace on Camp Victory, Iraq.

Lt. Gen. Lloyd J. Austin III, the MNC-I commander, presided over the ceremony and Brig.Gens. Daniel B. Allyn, chief of staff, MNC-I, and Michael Ferriter, deputy commanding general (operations), MNC-I, pinned on Lefebvre’s new rank.

Lefebvre was most recently commander of Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island and the Eastern Recruiting Region before his assignment at MNC-I.

He and his wife have a daughter and two sons, one of whom is a first lieutenant in the Marines.
