Applications for the Defense Commissary Agency’s 2008 Scholarships for Military Children are now available in commissaries worldwide.
The $1,500 scholarships are for children of active-duty and retired military as well as children of Guard and reserve servicemembers.
Applicants must be younger than the age of 21 if not yet attending a school, or 23, if enrolled in a school. They must be planning to attend an accredited college or university full time in the fall of 2008.
Those applying must submit an essay in which they take a position on the topic “Every able-bodied citizen should be required to serve a two-year period of time in the military. Why or why not?”
Deadline to apply is Feb. 20, 2008. At least one scholarship will be awarded at every commissary location with qualified candidates. Applications and further eligibility requirements are available in commissaries, as well as online at http://www.commissaries.com or at http://www.militaryscholar.org.
The program is administered by the Fisher House Foundation and is funded through donations by manufacturers, brokers and suppliers that sell groceries in commissaries.
